Siblings George Hodgetts (orphan 2604) and Maria Hodgetts (orphan 2605) were the children of former convicts Isabella Buckley (Cadet) and George Hodgetts (Phoenix). Their admission papers state the reason for their proposed admission is that father George Hodgetts had left the family and they were subsequently destitute. The admission papers note that in January 1860, mother Isabella was also looking after a toddler (Isabella Hodgetts, born 1857) and a 2 month old baby (unnamed male born 6 December 1859).
My connection to the family is that mother Isabella Buckley is my great-great-grandmother. By 1862 she had commenced a relationship with former convict, Welshman Walter Jones (Lord Auckland). They were to have three children: Walter, born 1863; Annie Elizabeth, born 1864 and Henry (Harry), born 1867. Annie is my great-grandmother.
Isabella's daughter, Isabella Hodgetts, later changed her name to Isabella Jones, presumably after her step-father, Walter Jones. She married Robert Locke, using the name Isabella Jones, in Feb 1883.
