Thomas Bates, only surviving child of Joseph Bates and Bridget Kean of
Campbell Town.
Both his parents were former convicts. He married Margaret Ogg (née Hutt) in
Sydney. Thomas eventually worked mainly on the wharfs, lived in Battery Point.
My grandmother Ruth Olive Briscoe (Bates ) was his daughter.
I have researched this Bates family extensively - see
