This orphan has been claimed by: Carol Thompson

Mary's mother - Ann Jones (identifier 3 on the 'Cadet') married Thomas Thompson (per the 'Equestrian') 1851, Launceston. The Thompson's had four children: Elizabeth (1851); Mary (1852; Thomas Henry (1856) & William (died as a child).  Ann Jones/Thompson applied for her two Jones daughters - Mary Ann & Sarah - and had them discharged from the Queens Orphanage in 1852. They lived with the Thompson family - first at Launceston and then the Port Sorell and Formby districts.  Mary has Thomas Sail (Sales) listed as her father but I cannot find a record of her birth in Middlesex, London or her mother marrying him. Thomas Sales was convicted of murder and executed in London 1844. He did apparently request a visit from his daughter Mary before his death.  Mary's sister was known here as Sarah Sales and married Edward Devlin, and lived at Ulverstone. Mary's mother Ann Thompson died here in Tasmania. (Research still underway as to Mary's marriage and further life story.)
