This orphan has been claimed by: Malcolm Ward

This is almost certainly John Kennedy, the son of William Henry KENNEDY and Harriet Ann nee THORNE and who was born 7 August 1832, registered at Sorell.

His father was a freed convict who settled at Pittwater and with his wife they had four children Anne (1822), Harriet (1826), Samuel (1828) and John (1832).

John Kennedy was not an orphan.  Harriet Kennedy died in 1835 aged only 30.  Henry Kennedy was a drunkard and local authorities noted the children to be 'in distress' after their mother died.  John (along with his brother Samuel) would have been put into the orphanage as his father wouldn't have been caring for him.   His father died in 1854.

John, like his brother Samuel made his life at sea, although fewer details are known.  He married Ann Schofield on 17 March 1858 and died at sea on 5 June 1859, leaving no children as far as is known.
