Julia Lock was born on 27 July 1837 in Launceston. Her mother was Eliza Lock, convict and her father was John Middleton, ticket-of-leave sawyer. Her half-sister Lucy Lock was transported with Eliza and died aged three in the Orphan School. Julia married Thomas Miller and they had three children Rebecca, Thomas and Amelia.
