This orphan has been claimed by: Jane Hodgman

Richard Wilson was born on the 29th of October 1853 to Margaret Wilson (Erskine) a widow from Edinburgh who had been transported with two children for stealing boots and shoes, and Richard Wilson a gardener. Margaret had been assigned to the Rev Ewing and her surviving daughter Agnes was admitted to the Queens Orphan School. Margaret and Richard were married by the Rev. Ewing in St John's Church in January 1853.

By July 1856 Margaret had left her husband. He was described in the Colonial Times as, "...a shocking specimen of a drunkard" and 8 year old Agnes and 3 year old Richard were admitted to the Orphan School.

On the 21st of December 1858, 5 year old Richard died of whooping cough and is buried in the Burial Grounds of St John's Church.

His sister Agnes is my g-g-grandmother and died in Devonport in 1937.
