Elizabeth Jane Blackwell was born at New Town on 18 or 25 May 1826, the fourth child of John and Mary Blackwell (Nos 190 & 191). She was christened at St John’s New Town aged 12.
Elizabeth never married and kept house for her father after her mother’s death. Like a number of her sisters she was later associated with the Methodist Church in Hobart.
Elizabeth seems to have been the last of the Blackwell children to die (there is some mystery over the fate of her sister, Eliza, supposed to have moved to New Zealand). Her last address was in Battery Point, suburb where some other family members lived after leaving New Town.
