Mary Ann Grives was the daughter of Mary Grives, who was sentenced to 7 years transportation at the Newington Quarter Sessions, Surrey on 22 May 1843. Came to Tasmania on the 'Angelina'. Her mother later married James Goddard.

Mary Ann married my great great grandfather George Jackson(real name Edward Contencin) on 19 Jan 1852 at St.George's Church, Battery Point, Hobart by Rev.H.P.Fry. He was listed as 27 years(really 35yrs) a tailor and she was an 18 year old spinster. Witnesses were James Jacques and Mary Morley.

As George remarried in 1857, she must have died before that, maybe in childbirth. George was a convict, sentenced for larceny in 1844 in the Central Criminal Court, London. To Norfolk Island on the 'David Malcolm' for two years and then to V.D.L on the 'Tory', arriving in May 1847
