Margaret Murphy (mother of above) was born in Galway, Ireland in 1800.
Margaret Murphy had four children and was noted as married when she was sentenced along with her son John to transportation to Australia. She was tried and sentenced at the Central Criminal Court in July 1845.
Margaret was transported to Australia, with two of her children Elizabeth (7 yrs) and Margaret (11.5 yrs). The family were transported on the Lloyds, landing at Hobart on 7 November 1845.
Elizabeth was sent to ‘The Orphans School’.
The daughter - Margaret (jnr) had taken ill on board ship , illness being epilepsia, attacked with violent crippling pains in bowels, she was disembarked on 08 November 1845 and sent to Hobart Town Hospital.
Margaret’s son John who was tried and sentenced with her was imprisonesd for two years on the Prison Hulks before being transported to Australia in 1847 on the ship Thomas Arbuthnot, landing in Melbourne.
