This orphan has been claimed by: Anne Merrick

Alfred Charles Reader was born on 27 Dec 1852 at Brown’s River. After leaving the Orphan School, Alfred worked as a labourer in the New Norfolk area, where his father was living with his second wife. On 5 May 1875 he married Charlotte Taylor at the Church of St Mary the Virgin at Gretna. They had four children. In 1888, aged 25, Alfred was described as being about 5 feet 3 inches tall with sandy hair and whiskers, and nearly blind. As a result of his blindness, he spent some time in the New Town Charitable Institute in the 1890s. In 1913 he married Jane Patterson (nee Lowe). He died on 14 Dec 1924 at the General Hospital, Hobart and is buried at Cornelian Bay Cemetery.
