Fox’s Feast, the annual picnic to remember the Orphan School children, will be held at the Old Sunday School, New Town, on Sunday 28 February.

The picnic is named after an ex-convict, John Fox, who funded an annual outing for the Orphan School Children.  He never married and at the time of his death in 1859 bequeathed his estate of almost £500 to the Queen’s Orphan Schools.  He stipulated that part of the bequest be used to give the children a day of healthful and innocent recreation.

This year’s Fox’s Feast will commence at 11am in the Old Sunday School with guest speaker, Felicity Hickman, talking about the convict women at Narryna.  This will be followed by a simple BYO picnic lunch – please bring a rug or outdoor chairs.  Tea, coffee and milk will be available at the old Sunday School.  After lunch we will scatter rose petals on the burial ground adjacent to the Old Sunday School.

A tour of the site will also be conducted, starting at 2pm.  For bookings or enquiries please contact the Secretary

All members and friends are very welcome.
